The President must be able to understand the big picture and ask the right questions.
Experience and track record will be important to show that the person is able to discharge his custodian duties effectively.
INDEPENDENCE
The President must ask the right questions and make an independent assessment of the situation. The President is not beholden to the Government of the day in any decision making.
Neither should The President oppose the Government of the day for the sake of opposing. The President must decide based on the best interests of Singaporeans.
A good President for Singapore is one who is able to be a long-term stabiliser.

INTEGRITY
This is the most important and most difficult to assess, especially in a short period of time. We will have to look into professional and personal history, who the candidate keeps company with, and how the candidate has made important decisions in life.
Most importantly, the President has to win the mandate of Singaporeans through an election.
